What the day involves

On a photo production, the team refines the composition of model and garment through each look, adjusting angle, stance and lighting until the cut sits right. On a show, rehearsal replaces the camera test as the main check: the walk is timed against the music and the spacing between looks is worked out in the fitting room before the audience arrives. Some presentations face neither a camera nor an audience. Retailers put models on the selling floor wearing the merchandise while shoppers examine it, and the booking is partly spoken and unscripted rather than a walk or a series of frames. The hours differ across those three formats, and overtime on a catalogue day is settled in the first message, not after the set has run long.

What to settle before the day

The usage terms are the part first-time bookers forget and every model asks about. Territory, duration and medium have to be agreed in writing before the files leave the studio, because a picture shot for a spring lookbook in one market is not automatically cleared for a paid campaign in another. Who provides the garments on a fitting, who holds the final selects, and whether hair and make-up sit with the production or with the model are all points that vary between one job and the next. Recent work on the skin belongs to the arrangement rather than the chair: injectables, laser sessions or surgery not long past change what may be applied and when, so the question is established with the model before a look is designed, and passing it to another practitioner sits within scope.
